Good News Out of Illinois

March 9, 2008

Bill Foster, the Democratic candidate in the special House election in Illinois’s 14th Congressional District, won yesterday.  This is the Congressional seat that was held by former Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert for more than twenty years.  George Bush carried the district with 56% of the vote in 2004.  The Republican’s have held this seat for thirty-five years.

And yesterday a Democrat took it.  The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spent a million dollars trying to win this election.  The National Republican Congressional Committee spent even more, though they had barely more than $5 million cash on hand.  John McCain went to Illinois to campaign for the Republican candidate.  Barack Obama campaigned for Foster.

It’s a long time until November, but this one has to make the GOP nervous.  Poor them.

By the way, I still haven’t heard from Rep. Steven King (Nut Job-Iowa) about his BOW award.  I announced it yesterday morning.  He’s had plenty of time to call or at least email me.  But I guess it’s hard to type with one’s head so far up one’s . . . well, you know.
