An Upcoming Anthology

July 13, 2010

I am pleased to be able to announce that I will have a short story appearing in a new anthology edited by Joshua Palmatier and Patricia Bray.  The anthology is called After Hours:  Tales From the Ur-Bar.  Here is the editors’ description:

The first bar, created by the Sumerians after they were given the gift of beer by the gods, was known as the Ur-Bar. Although it has since been destroyed, its spirit lives on–in each age there is one bar that captures the essence of the original Ur-Bar, where drinks are mixed with magic and served with a side of destiny and intrigue.

Contributing authors include S.C. Butler, Maria V. Snyder, Laura Anne Gilman, Benjamin Tate, Patricia Bray, Ian Tregillas, Anton Strout, Jackie Kessler, Juliet McKenna, Avery Shade, Seanan McGuire, Kari Sperring, Barbara Ashford, Jennifer Dunne, and yours truly, writing as D. B. Jackson.

My story is titled “The Tavern Fire,” and it is set in 1760 Boston.  At least one character from my Thieftaker series appears in the story, which is why I chose to write it under the pseudonym.

After Hours will be published by Daw and its release is scheduled for March 1, 2011.  It is available for pre-order.

Working with Joshua and Patricia on this project was an incredible experience.  They are wonderful editors who understand the writing process and are more than happy to push their writers so as to get the most out of every story.  This promises to be an excellent anthology.
