I am very pleased to say that I have received a second invitation in as many weeks to be literary guest of honor at a convention.  This time it is for Marscon in Williamsburg, Virginia on the weekend of January 18-20, 2013.  Tamora Pierce will be YA Guest of Honor, and I think that D.B. Jackson guy will be at this one, too.  Looking forward to it.

Guest of Honor Gig

February 4, 2012

Quiet, rainy day.  Mostly stuck around the house and got little things done that I’ve been putting off.

But I did want to announce that I will be Literary Guest of Honor at Con*Stellation in Huntsville, Alabama, October 12-14.  Hope to see many of you there.  Oh, and some guy named D.B. Jackson is going to be there, too, as a “Special Guest.”

Dragon*Con begins Friday, and I’ll be heading to Hot’Lanta tomorrow to help with the set-up in our book booth.  My updated, final schedule, which includes my booksigning times, can be found here.  I haven’t been to D*C in years and I’m very excited to be attending this year’s con.  I expect to see lots of old friends and to meet some new ones.  I hope you’ll stop by my reading, or drop in to listen to a panel or two.  And I definitely hope you’ll come and see me at the signing booth, where I’ll have time to chat and about the con, fantasy, my books, or just about anything else you care to discuss.

Today’s post can be found at http://magicalwords.net, the group blog on the business and craft of writing fantasy that I maintain with fellow authors Faith Hunter, Misty Massey, A.J. Hartley, Stuart Jaffe, and Edmund Schubert, among others. The post is called “Writing Life — An Aspiring Writer’s Guide to Conventions and Conferences,” and it’s about the different sorts of conferences and cons available to writers. I hope you enjoy it.

My Dragon*Con Schedule

August 24, 2011

My programming schedule for Dragon*Con, Atlanta’s humongous SF/Fantasy convention, is now available at my Facebook page.  Here is the link.  I have yet to get my book signing times, but when I have those I will post them as well.  I hope to see many of you at the con.  It should be a blast.

Podcast Interview Up!

April 19, 2011

Mike Plested and I met last fall when I was Guest of Honor at ConVersion in Calgary.  Recently, Mike interviewed me for his “Irreverent Muse” podcast, and the interview is now up on the website and available for download.  Check it out here.  Hope you enjoy it.

I returned home late yesterday from JordanCon, after a terrific weekend.  The folks at the con treated me wonderfully and I had a chance to visit with my old friend, Jana Oliver, and to meet new friends Brandon Sanderson, Eugie Foster, and Harriet MacDougal (Robert Jordan’s widow).  Because I returned home late, Diana Pharaoh Francis took my blogging slot at Magical Words this week.  Check out her post here.  And I’ll be back to posting at Magical Words next week.

Off to JordanCon!

April 14, 2011

Later today I’m heading down to Atlanta for JordanCon, where I am this year’s Literary Guest of Honor.  I’m excited about the convention — it looks like there will be some great writing-oriented programming, and the other guests include Brandon Sanderson, Eugie Foster, and my wonderful friend, Jana Oliver.  If you happen to be in the area, please stop in and say hello, maybe catch a panel or two.

Today’s post can be found at http://magicalwords.net, the group blog on the business and craft of writing fantasy that I maintain with fellow authors Faith Hunter, Misty Massey, A.J. Hartley, Stuart Jaffe, and Edmund Schubert, among others. The post is called “Back to Basics, part I: Be a Writer” and it is the the first in a new series of posts on the basics of writing. I hope you enjoy it.

I’m leaving tomorrow morning for StellarCon, in High Point, North Carolina.  Most of the Magical Words crew will be there (A.J., we’ll miss you!) and on Saturday night we will be hosting a party to celebrate (belatedly) the release of How To Write Magical Words:  A Writer’s Companion.  If you’re in the area, we hope you’ll stop by the con, come and listen to our panels and readings, and stop in at the launch party.  Looking forward to seeing you there!
