Today on the Summer 2014 Plunder of Souls Blog Tour, I conclude my month as Featured Author at Drey’s Library. My final post for Drey is a somewhat lighthearted list of my writerly pet peeves — from mall signings to “reserves against returns,” and a few things in between. While you’re at the site, be sure to sign up for a chance to win a free signed hardcover copy of A PLUNDER OF SOULS, the third Thieftaker novel, which has just been released. You can find the post here; I hope you enjoy it.

Today on the Summer 2014 Plunder of Souls Blog Tour, I’m back at Magical Words — my “home” blog — with a post on plotting. Sometimes the hardest thing about writing in a series, particularly in one that consists of stand-alone novels, is keeping stories fresh as well as entertaining. My post at Magical Words is about five things I do to keep my narratives new and interesting. You can find the post here.
I am also visiting with my friend Brandy Schillace with a post about research and “Striking Research Gold.” I’ve had some great discoveries as I have pieced together the history for my Thieftaker novels, and that was particularly true as I worked on A Plunder of Souls. You can find the research post here.
Finally, I would like to mention to all of you who live in the area around Charlotte, North Carolina that Faith Hunter, A.J. Hartley, and I will be signing books tonight at the Books-A-Million in Gastonia, from 6:30-8:30. Come on out and say hello! (A listing of all my appearances can be found here.)

Today, I am happy to announce that the preliminary schedule for the Summer 2014 Plunder of Souls Blog Tour is up and available for perusal at the D.B. Jackson website. This is a preliminary schedule not because I expect the dates on there to change, but rather because I expect to be adding more and more events all summer long. Right now, I have more than two dozen stops planned. I also have these cool new graphics that the wonderful people at Tor came up with — the banner up top and the “blog tour button.” Don’t you love them? I do.
A Plunder of Souls, for those who don’t know, is the third volume in my Thieftaker Chronicles, which began with Thieftaker and Thieves’ Quarry. Thieftaker is available now in hardcover, paperback, ebook format and audio format. Thieves’ Quarry is out in haardcover, ebook, and audio, and will be released in paperback on June 3. For more on these books and all the thieftaker short fiction currently available, please visit my website.
I think it bears mentioning that blog tours are impossible without the generosity and forbearance of blog tour hosts, and I am so grateful to all the great folks who intend to welcome me to their sites this summer.
I am also happy to report that my appearances page (also at the D.B. Jackson website) has been updated with several book signing dates. I’ll be doing a small book tour this summer in the Carolinas and Virginia; again, I hope and expect to add more dates as the summer approaches. And I hope to see many of you along the way.

I had a fun signing last night at one of the nicest bookstores I’ve ever seen — The Fountain Bookstore in Richmond, Virginia. Kelly, the shop owner was knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly nice, and we had a small but enthusiastic group of fans show up. Great fun. Today I drive to Charlottesville, Virginia where I will be signing this evening at Oakley’s Gently Used Books. Hope to see some of you there.
In the meantime, the Summer 2013 Thieves’ Quarry Blog Tour continues with a stop at the blog of Stephen Leigh. I first met Steve years ago at RiverCon in Louisville Kentucky. We hit it off right away and have remained close friends in the years since. Steve shares my passion for research and for writing historical fantasy, so naturally that’s what I wrote about for the post. I hope you enjoy it.

Today the Summer 2013 Thieves’ Quarry Blog Tour stops in to visit with my good friend and colleague Benjamin Tate. (AKA Joshua Palmatier) We did an interview, with some interesting questions — and you can find it here.
Meanwhile, the Summer 2013 Thieves’ Quarry Signing Tour is in Richmond, Virginia today. I will be signing copies of Thieftaker and Thieves’ Quarry (and whatever else you might want me to sign) this evening at Fountain Bookstore in Richmond, beginning at 6:30. If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello.
Finally, the Blog Tour Schedule says that I am also supposed to be at Bitten By Books today, for an all day event and gift card giveaway. That event has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, July 16. Hope to see you all there.
