Spite Makes Right

October 6, 2009

Here’s a link to a terrific editorial by Paul Krugman on the spitefulness of conservatives in the Age of Obama.  As Jon Stewart put it last night onThe Daily Show, it turns out, for all their talk about patriotism and “Country First,” that those on the far right “hate Obama more than they love America.”

I’m hoping to see a blog on how the Republicans unanimously voted down an amendment disallowing a rape clause in employee contracts within companies the government uses because they saw it as a political attack on Haliburton weeks after introducing one that was actually an attack on Acorn for advising a fake pimp and prostitute on how to commit a fake crime, whereas Haliburton’s real gang rape victim gets to see no justice. Holy shit this makes my head hurt.

I meant to say how they tried to vote down an amendment. They were the only nay votes.

Thanks for the comments, Alex. I have to admit that this vote flew under my radar until I saw Jon Stewart do a piece on it last night. Totally outrageous and yet totally, totally typical. “We believe X, even if it demeans women or African Americans or gays or anyone else. But if we can hurt Barack Obama, or score political points, then we believe Y and not X.”
